Typhoon Ondoy, Sept. 26, 2009: More than a month’s worth of rain fell in just 12 hours.

These are photos from the net. I got teary-eyed just watching the news and browsing through everyone’s facebook posts. This is mother nature getting back at us.

Got this from another blog:

Imagine this: Katrina dumped over an inch of rainfall in Louisiana for
3 hours and another 0.5 inches per hour over the next 5 hours on
August 29, 2005. Philippine typhoon ‘Ondoy’ dumped an average of 2.24
inches per hour for over six hours.

Our family is lucky to be living at a high enough place that the deepest flood in our area is only waist deep. That’s nothing compared to those who had neck-deep water. Those whose houses were not spared and had to climb up to their roofs, with no food, no water, no communication to the outside world.

Filipinos from all walks of life were greatly affected - Rich, poor, adults, and kids. Actress Christine Reyes (Ara Mina’s sister) took a picture of herself soaking wet on the roof of their house in Provident Village, Marikina. She MMS’ed her friends who posted it on their facebook walls. She was called by the TV networks through her cellphone, where she was heard crying and desperate for help.

My brother who was at Ayala Ave., had to swim through shoulder-deep water. His description was that Buendia and Ayala Ave looked like “islands” and “lagpas tao na ang tubig.” He was able to hitch a ride with a truck who took him to his girlfriend’s place in Pandacan, Manila. He is not home yet but he is now safe and dry, and for that we are thankful.

God help our nation and our planet. If we don’t do something it will get worse than this.
